Clint does it for USA against Korea
June 10, 2002

Clint Mathis became the first MetroStar to score in a World Cup, netting the first goal as the US tied Korea 1:1 to move both teams to 4 points as joint leaders of Group D. Clint's goal came in the 24th minute of a feed from John O'Brien. Mathis struck the ball from deep in the penalty box past the Korean goalie.

The US held on for 54 minutes, with Brad Friedel saving a PK late in the first half as ex-DC scum Jeff Agoos brought down Some Korean Guy in the box. Unfortunately, in the 78th minute, Another Korean Guy tied the score as the same ex-scum Agoos was outjumped on a free kick.

Mathis joins Lothar Matthaus, Adolfo Valencia, Branco, and Shaun Bartlett on the exclusive list of players on the MetroStars' All-Time roster to score in the World Cup. He also joins Tab Ramos and Marcelo Vega on the even-more exclusive list of playing in the World Cup while a member of the Metros.
